In a courtesy '73 plate hybrid X2 today and had an iX1 to drive last year.

Both had fat steering wheels. Within a few miles today I could feel my hands aching and I have big hands.

Our '71 plate X1 has a 'normal' thickness steering wheel which is comfortable to hold.

I quite liked the iX1 and the X2 has merits but I couldn't buy either purely due to the fat steering wheels.

Why the trend to overly thick steering wheels? I guess one car had one and the lemmings followed suit?

Steering wheel on my i4 was designed to fit Wade Dooley.

I'm not exactly Donald Trump tiny hands, but it's not a comfortable thing.

The one on my Guilia Veloce was perfect. Typically Italian.

Some measurements are needed, please.

I like a chunky steering wheel.

I've not had any recent BMWs, but M-Sport wheels were always much thicker than the standard ones.

I don't have big hands and I prefer the standard one in my 330i SE to the chunky one in my Z4M, although the rest of the car more than makes up for it!

Big shout out to Royal Steering Wheels who just supplied a lovely new wheel for my M240. As well as alcantara and blue stitching, I asked for a thinner rim and it now feels just right.
Highly recommended.
