I bought 2,5 litres of this to paint the external doors,
quick drying it says, touch dry in 45 mins, etc

first coat over primer, and 12 HOURS later its still tacky,
I may as well have bought cheapo gloss,

Did you use Dulux Weathershield primer?

I was once told... Dulux Weathershield is a system and you have to use the primer, undercoat and gloss to get the 10 year guarantee.

I did once use Weathershield undercoat and gloss to paint window frames and they did last more than 10 years so I was very pleased.

I have just looked at the specifications online and it appears they have made too much use of the Weathershield brand name and now the instructions are as confusing as fk.

its a standard colour, well stirred, but I used Ronseal primer/undercoat.

due to damage (cat hair) before it dried, will sand it and recoat on the next warm day,

I assume you were painting outdoors? Temperature and humidity can have a big effect on drying time. Not sure where you are but it's certainly been quite cool and damp here.

You only need the primer if it's bare wood.

Is the weather cold, it take a while to go off If it's cold. A good tip if your painting external doors, run some vasoline around the door weather strip. It stops the doors sticking.
