I see that it's going to be much easier to travel to NI with a pet from 4th June as long as your dog is microchipped. Certificate is free. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/norther...

Has anyone got any experience of getting an NI vet to issue an EU pet passport? Seems to me to be the best long term approach for regular EU travel. I'd rather do a one off trip to NI than pay over and over for a health certificate.

This looks like a great earner for NI vets! My dog has a Belgian passport, which was easily sorted, but I'd had to travel with him on an (expensive) AHC. We've been over to the EU twice and Morocco once since, using the Belgian passport.
As you say, a trip to NI would be a great way to get hold of a pet passport. If you go ahead with it, please keep the thread updated.

Here's the dog in the desert near Merzouga in Morocco.

The pet travel scheme is up and running in advance of the implementation date of 4th June. I've applied for my pet travel document and will plan a NI trip later this year with the aim of returning with an EU pet passport.

Please keep us updated. My lad is doing a work placement in NI next year so we are planning several trips with the dogs. Getting and EU passport for the idiots would be really helpful.

Looks like this won't be necessary.
