Sorry, wasn’t sure where to post this.
I sent a parcel (used leather flying jacket) to a buyer in Germany, he paid by bank transfer, 2 amounts £950 for the jacket and £50 for carriage. The buyer asked me to include a copy of my bank statement which showed the amount he paid.
I posted at the post office through DPD, but the parcel was returned to me, not sure why but the buyer believes it was to do with German customs (not the fact that it is a replica of a jacket which would have been worn by 2nd world was American bomber crews!).
He was told that DPD would redeliver at no cost.
Now the problem, the only telephone number for DPD requests the consignment number, which isn’t recognised, as from their point of view I suspect the job is closed, and I end up with the same message requesting it on a loop.
Does anybody know how I go about contacting DPD to arrange re delivery?
TIA

It’s not clear to me whether or not you actually have the jacket back.

If you do you would need to get a refund from DPD for non delivery to the specified paid for address first.

If it was me I wouldn’t sell outside the UK and I’d insist on pickup or deliver it myself for something of that value.

Our son lives in Germany, three times we used the Post Office to send birthday cards and none arrived,

Foe the last parcel we used DHL via their website, all fine except son had to pay more in import duty than the gift was worth

First question is what was put on the customs declaration form for import into Germany? That will be the key to this. There is highly likely going to be import duties to pay.

Sounds like the parcel arrived with a demand for import duty (based on the declared value) which the buyer declined to pay so didn't accept it. I think normal procedure is that it will be returned, eventually, to the sender. DPD can't deliver it in Germany until duty is paid. That's down to the buyer unless agreed otherwise.

You need an EORI number to deal with import/export to Germany. Whether a company or not.

I investigated:

https://www.gov.uk/eori says:

You do not need an EORI number if you’re moving goods that are both:

not controlled goods
for personal use only

I thought that too. Germany didn’t agree.

Just to update the thread, I resent the jacket with DHL, it arrived with the buyer 3 days later, lesson learned!
