UK NCD in Netherlands
Discussion
Anyone have experience of using UK no claims discount in the Netherlands when buying insurance? I’ve read it is possible but not sure exactly which companies will accept it.
Been here 2 years and had a car on private lease so didn’t need to worry about insurance; now I’m here for the long term I’m thinking of getting something GT-esque to do some European tours. I kept my UK insurance going for the last few years so I could drive me car on the odd occasion I was back in the UK; it expires in a month so timing is ideal and it would open up some more interesting options, ins cost wise.

I called a few companies and the advice was basically to take out the insurance with 0 no claims bonus then email them with my proof of no claims to see if they would accept. It’s a bit of a gamble considering the difference in price but there isn’t much option.
I went with Unive, I submitted 14 years NCB from the UK, they only accepted 9 of those, which they said was because that was the maximum discount level… My premium halved in value so definitely worth giving it a go, especially given how much more expensive it is compared to the uk…
I won’t mention the comparable cost of road tax!

You could buy a small country with the amount my insurance is for a Taycan and an X5 and that’s with the max 70% discount available…….I went with Unive, I submitted 14 years NCB from the UK, they only accepted 9 of those, which they said was because that was the maximum discount level… My premium halved in value so definitely worth giving it a go, especially given how much more expensive it is compared to the uk…

And I even have to pay road tax on the electric one now!
The Netherlands is not a cheap country to own a decent car. Guess why so many are on private lease……
