In the pub last night talking about food and the conversation turned to what food from the past would you like to try if you had a time machine and go back.

I said I would like to go back to the late 40s early 50s Kentucky and try what KFC is really supposed to taste like cooked the the colonel himself

One of the guys said he would do similar and go back to late 60s Pennsylvania and try an original Big Mac cooked by the inventor Jim Delligati

One of the others said go back and have his grannies rag pudding because nobody got the recipe so it’s never been the same since she died

What would you want to go back in time and try for the first time or experience one more time something you ate as a child?

My Grandparents' cook, Mrs Brothers' Pineapple upside-down cake - no one has ever replicated its perfection as a comfort pudding

No idea if it’s changed massively but Claudia Sanders Dinner House was more in keeping with the original kfc.

Yeah I know I’ve been there many years ago but it would still be good to taste the real early days stuff.

‘Bombay Duck’ accompanied by a cold pint of larger, to get you in the mood for the impending curry,

Authentic Bombay Duck doesn’t look pretty, but packs a punch in terms of flavour and aromatics.

Giant tortoise? This piqued my interest. I wonder if the they get better with age, like a fine wine? "Sir, we have a fine 250 year old Galapagos, should you wish...." biggrin

The whole question and answer, which I found hilarious...and QI

My Mum's Scotch Beans.

Like a large oval Scotch egg, but filled with baked beans. Any modern versions are a terribly poor imitation.

Have managed to perfect her chestnut stuffing style sausage rolls though.

Tried one of his places in Bristol and it wasn't bad, however the pub he had down in Devon was a joke - Floyd was paralytic at the bar both times we went, and the food was forgettable in both instances.

How did she make those? Freeze the beans then wrap the sausage meat around?

Or mash them up a bit so they're claggy and stick together?
