I took this at a F1 test day at Silverstone last year

I was worried that the fence would be too distracting, but with only the small area of colour I think it works better

I had it printed at 11"x8" and it remains one of my favourite photos - and whatever you say, it will remain so - just wondered what others thought

At very first impression, I thought the fencing distracting.

But then...

...it sort of grows on you, doesn't it? Sort of "evocative" in the B&W-ness

Looks like it could be a superb photo, but Ted's resizing doesn't do it justice. Do you have a link to a full size version?

Thought it's shit myself.

Only joking , smashing pic. The noise on the blown up pic is quite cool. Intentional or not? in other words High ISO or Noise added ?

More works better, small doesn't do a lot.

I find the lack of contrast between the black on the engine cover and the crash barrier a bit confusing. It makes the car look as if it has a huge 70's style air box and nothing behind. Perhaps you could lighten the engine cover (or the barrier if you have a lot of time). I think the fence is fine. Sometimes I feel that pro motorsport shots aren't as evocative as those of amateurs because they are taken from places that an amateur can't get to and so don't reflect ones own memories so well. Having said that it is a bit of a shame about the electrical cabinet. Purely IMHO of course.

Nice shot though.

Below is a ham fisted version of what I mean on the engine cover.

It was with my old Dimage 5, ISO100. Wasn't a particularly noisy camera, and the exposure wasn't changed much, so maybe I did something wrong somewhere along the line.

This was the original file that I sent off to photobox to be printed. I may have been a bit overzealous with the unsharp mask?

I see what you mean. A shame the car wasn't about 1m forward of its current position - that's the problem with the gold/black BAR colour scheme I suppose.

And that cabinet, well I'll look out for them next time! If I was good at PS I'd edit it out, but i'm not, so I won't

I think the spot treatment saves it. I just want to move the car back up the road six feet so it's not touching the vertical of the fence.

OK so a little experiment (hastily done, don't laugh at my inept cloning)

Nice

It also proves one thing...

Silverstone is NOT very camera friendly for the most part. The Luffield terrace is the best area if you have a long lens.
