Intermittent/Random "bong" notification - DB11
Discussion
Today driving home from Easter dinner my 2017 DB11 started to "bong" intermittently and completely random. There were probably 20 or so singular "bong"s in about 40 minutes of driving. No warning lights on the dash. No indication anywhere that could find. I turned off the parking system because it sounded like the "bong" when I pull into the garage. Anyone have any idea what my car is trying to tell me? This happened once before a couple months ago.
Long time since I had my 2017 DB11 but if it sounds like a parking bong it may be the proximity warning in the 360 cameras and radar. I seem to remember it occasionally bonged if it thought something was too close to the side. Never worked out if was just a bug or if an occasional branch sticking out of a hedgerow or an oncoming car being a bit close. Might be worth cleaning the sensors on the side.

Did you have a passenger? My car does this sometimes if I have stuff on the front seat . It makes the noise but no dashboard light .
Yes, I did. And this may have something to do with it, but not sure at all. This issue happened once before, and I was alone, but I could have had stuff on the seat, I don't remember. If it is this, I'm wondering what the solution might be?Westlondondriver said:

I thought of this and this is why I turned off the parking system, but it didn't help. I've heard what you are referring to many times before, but this was different. And my experience is that the proximity "bong" is only at very low speed or when stopped. My issue was happening while driving at speed too.carealtor said:

If it is something on the seat then the weight may be activating the restraints system, so it detects what it thinks might be a passenger without a seatbelt. One potential solution would be to fasten the front seat belt; if this fixes the issue then that supports the idea that it's the restraints system. There will not be a way of disabling it.LTP said:

That's a plausible explanation. My wife did have her seatbelt on, but it still could be an indication of a problem with the passenger detection. carealtor said:

Sorry, I mis-read your earlier answer- I thought you’d said you had something on the seat, not that you had a passenger on the seat when the car was giving you the audible warning.Does it only happen when you are two-up, or does it happen when only you are driving the car?

Only happened twice. This time with a passenger. Previous time I was definitely solo, but could have had something on the seat. It was awhile back and I don't remember that detail.Does it only happen when you are two-up, or does it happen when only you are driving the car?
Anybody know if there would be a warning on the dash if the car thought the passenger was not buckled?

i had this on a different car. Drove me nuts, turned out it was the speed camera notification in the satnav. (Someone else here has suggested this..) Took me weeks to track down. Turn off the entertainment system and see if ‘bongs’ still happen.
My youngest daughter solved a "bong" issue due to Waze trying to tell me to slow down.mrpseudonym said:

I didn't even know there was a speed camera notification in the satnav. Regardless... yes, actually, I did try turning off the infotainment system when having this issue, and it did not change the situation. Thanks for the idea, but I don't think this is what is happening.Aldhun said:

Bit of a different topic but - how do you get Waze sound out of your CarPlay ? I have a db11 with second generation CarPlay fitted by main dealer and despite all attempts I cannot get any navigation / directions alerts and sound out of Waze ?If possible would you be kind enough to detail your set up of Bluetooth / sound system for Waze to play alerts out loud ?
Many thanks

Does changing the “Play sound via” setting in Waze make a difference? If possible would you be kind enough to detail your set up of Bluetooth / sound system for Waze to play alerts out loud ?

Thank you. Bud sadly not
My Gen 2 CarPlay announced an upcoming pothole the other day which made me think of you and now I have seen this thread. What I would suggest is putting your iPhone in another car preferably with a cable connection.
Does it give Waze voice?
If not, when you think it should be speaking, increase the volume by using the in car volume control. CarPlay should control the spoken volume when the voice is being played, when not being played it reverts to music. I have a sneaking suspicion that Gen 2 CarPlay spoken volume control may be the culprit.
