Early morning riding
Discussion
I am retired now and use my bike quite a bit ,but I do have the ability to chose when , weather, mood, time of day etc .
When I was riding 10 years or so ago I would have typically been up by now , probably out before 8 am and be back by 10 am before it got too busy. I remember regularly being out on a Sunday to meet a pall or two, and I would be riding through the countryside before much of it had woken up.
I said to my wife last night I would go out early today, she said she was going to have a lie in so perfect. Just had my first coffee, not dressed and typing this in no hurry to go .
Do some of you still go early? I can't hear bikes from here but I recall that sound from our last house at about 8 am or earlier on a BH or Sunday.

I often have to leave early (5am) to drive because of work and the level of quite large dead animals on the road is startling.
I fear for people riding a motorcycle in such situations and I’ll often advise the Police that said animal needs removing.
An advantage of riding in South Bucks is that you get advance warning of roadkill from Red Kites (the 'Chiltern vulture') circling over the scene.I fear for people riding a motorcycle in such situations and I’ll often advise the Police that said animal needs removing.
Yes, I go early, often 6.30am to get through North Wales to the coast by 9.00am. Then spend the rest of the morning touring around before heading towards home at lunchtime.
Best part of the day, except for one big thing... the cold! Even on days with sun and 20deg, at 6.30 the air is cold.
Heated grip on and just suffer the first hour. No traffic, few bikers, breakfast by the sea. Lovely.

Definitely
Hampered in the Spring by the dark mornings and cold temperatures but as soon as the weather allows I'll set off at dawn
On a family holiday I hired a bike, the best mountain pass was an hour away - I set off in the dark at to get there at dawn so I had it to myself for an hour
I'm 2 hours from Wales so I'm building a camper (with a garage) so I can drive there the night before and ride around Wales at dawn - it's just the best part of the day

I leave for work by 0430 almost every morning, makes my commute mostly quiet although some winters are a bit miserable and during the nicer weather I tend to start seeing more bikes as I get within the M25 boundary and a lot of obviously 'fair weather' riders wobbling about slowing things down.
For 'fun' rides I don;t tend to leave until later in the morning to avoid the commuter traffic, although between work, the Mrs, and the kids I rarely get any time to ride for the sake of riding at the moment.

I do it often in the warmer months, out the door by 5.30am and head for the Yorkshire Dales. I have also gone out in the winter months when the weather is milder, sometimes a ride in the dark is very calming, no traffic , just me on the bike and the noise from the exhaust, almost like a video game.
Next Sunday I will be dropping the wife and two of her coven at Leeds/ Bradford Airport at 4.30am, back home by 5.15am and straight out on the bike, meet a couple of mates at Settle at 6.30am, onto Hawes then fish and chips in Whitby, down the coast to Bridlington and across to Seaways cafe, mug of tea and then home back to Leeds.

Early o clock is defo the best time of the day for a ride on a bright summers day.
I have been known to get up at 0330 and out the house by 0400 for some peacefully riding.
Best ever was Tenerife quite a few years ago. Going over Teide at 0500 was breath taking.
Dartmoor dead early is also pretty awesome, just watch out for sleepwalking sheep though.

I leave for work at 1/2 am , use car & go through vale of belvoir , unbelievable how many deer you see , crossing the road or just sat at side of road , there not huge but I wouldn’t want to hit one on the motorbike .
I come home same route in afternoon , and never see one .been out early on bike but I am careful as our town is surrounded by country roads .

Do it occasionally when a flight necessitates an early ride to Glasgow Airport. Nice in the summer - roads are quiet, sun already up, tyres and bike warm up quickly. The curves on and off the Erskine Bridge add a bit of entertainment.
Bit miserable in winter when it's only a degree or two at best, it's raining and pitch black.

Only really done it to get somewhere else to ride, so it's just boring motorway anyway. In the long day months I get great rides in the evening 7-10pm with hardly any traffic so not been tempted to be the noisy annoying person that early locally.
The dream is to have a van to transport the bike to Scotland on a Friday night, sleep in it and have the highland roads to myself in the morning, returning in time for work on Monday.
