eBay shipping from US...

I appreciate it includes duty and VAT but can anyone explain this?

3 plastic bowls, weight: not much. Seller wants £26.13 (which no doubt includes buyer protection fee). The shipping is £35.26! Even if 10% is the new tariff can it really cost that much to post a small lightweight box from US to UK? Where's all that money going?

Pick another destination, eg Belgium, and the prices are even higher, yet UK and EU are both on a 10% tariff..

The tarrif works the other way, anyway. So 10% when posted to the USA, not from it.

Shipping from the US is expensive! I've always found it a lot higher than sending stuff to the US.

If I am selling and the buyer has an overseas location then it is such an infrequent occurrence and the hassle of arranging shipping is so awkward that I simply don't care how much the shipping costs especially if the buyer is still prepared to pay.

Ebay dictate the shipping cost and most likely take a cut. I sold a power saw recently, had to send it with an adult signature as it contained a blade I had listed it as free shipping so the cost was down to me, when i went to do the shipping through Ebay with UPS it came to £29 inc insurance!! Considering this was over a third of the price i sold it for i shipped it directly through UPS with the adult signature and insurance for £12, exactly the same service just not done through Ebay

That's my suspicion - that since eBay 'took over' international shipping they not only striped up the cost, but probably got a discount from the preferred shippers as well. The breakdown however appears to be unknown. I guess it's all part of trying to take over the world.

When I was selling on eBay I used their global shipping program for international sales.
I believe the postage cost for buyers was quite eye watering at times but for me as a seller it was worth it because I only had to cover the postage to eBay’s distribution centre in the UK.

I did try doing my own postage internationally but I lost more in “undelivered parcels” abroad than any time within the UK so I gave up unless it was through eBay global shipping program.

Update - to my surprise, although the seller did look at other means of shipping, the eBay cost was the best. 'Go figure' as they say!
