iPhone changing contact names on its own

I've just found my son's contact name has changed to his nickname. I didn't do it.

He tells me that he has updated his name on Whatsapp for the purposes of his friends. But why would my phone change his name in contacts? I feel a bit uneasy about that.

Anyone else had this?

You've allowed Whatsapp to use your contacts. I get 'notifications' saying a contact can be updated, or has different details, "do I want to change it"? Maybe you got similar and agreed?

Anyway just change it back in your contacts. Also check all your settings in whatsapp and disable anything you don't need,
