Check Engine Light
Discussion
Was out for a drive this weekend in my 2004, 3.2 Boxster when (100 miles from home!) the "Check" Engine light came on and an alert saying something like "Drive to garage" came on the screen. No flashing just a constant light. Happened just after I had topped up the oil levels (dipstick was on minimum). The engine sounds OK with no smoke (thank goodness) or rattling (hopefully not IMS). Just wondering if anyone has experience of this or ideas as to what it could be? Booked in for an immediate service on Wednesday so let's see.
Check engine can be lots of things including faulty or blown exhaust - if adding oil, it is best to do in small increments since the oil expands as it warms up and also it can be tricky to get the measurements right when it's an electronic dipstick.
Somewhere between minimum & maximum - know it sounds obvious; but having oil in the middle is better than right up to either line and risking under/overfill
