In the past when I have been thinking of going to an historic motorsport event on the continent I have found the Pistonheads forum a good source of information from people who have been before.

If I go this year, I will be travelling in an MGB and camping. Probably take the night ferry from Portsmouth to Caen and take 2 days to drive down. Same on the way back.

So please let me have any relevant comments. Routes to follow, places to visit on the way, campsite and restaurant recommendations?

Also, the ticket site offers Saturday and Sunday tickets but in some places the event dates include the Friday. Is the Friday free?
