Estate/suv 20k
Discussion
Hello all hoping for a few opinions , looking to renew cars in a few months and playing with options .
1 child and 1 large husky dog so must be an estate/SUV
Commute is around 400 miles a week so more than likely diesel (euro6 and all it's woes) . All would be preferably auto . I do have a trailer that I use to move a small excavator so 2t towing capacity is a must .
Contenders so far seem to be
F11 530d
W212 facelift e350 bluetec
V90 d5 (don't know enough about the petrol ones have ran several other d5s)
Mercedes ML350/gle350 bluetec
Id prefer to spend the lower end of the budget and throw a few grand at tyres , brakes , servicing and maintenance at the start but would love some ideas and opinions as till now I've driven sheds but circumstances changed recently .

Passat diesel estate? Run one as a cheap ‘spare’ car but using it tons.
Luckily have a few cars, Macan Turbo, Discovery 5, Transporter T5 and had a really old Passat estate. Had lots of them over the years. Recently upgraded it to a 2020 one and it’s ace. Apple CarPlay which connects quickly, comfortable, lane assist which isn’t intrusive, stop/start easy to turn off, 60-70 mpg and will do 800 miles to a tank on a long run. Lower sill than SUV making it easy for the dogs to jump in and they seem to like it. Was only 9.5k and buttons on tax and insurance.
Not the most ‘dynamic’ of cars but does what it’s best at really well. Last one was sold at £1.5k to a mate and 2011 with 170k miles so can see this one lasting 9 more years and being sold with similar mileage and value so cheap motoring for something that’s a decent place to be.

My last 5 series was an E61 which was lovely, so would obviously expect similar from the newer ones. I have a D4 V90 which is also lovely and I’d definitely recommend. Either of those two you’d struggle to go wrong with.
Preference over the two for every day use ? Not had a play with the Volvo interface yetBatfoy said:
If you can stomach the image and potential reliability issues, Range Rovers have really come down in price and you should be able to get a decent one for 20k.
No I couldn't although when running they are very nice to drive . It's the reliability side that scares me with them Cjs9395 said:

Fixed that for you. I assume you mean the facelift L405, where 20k is the bottom of the market spec/ miles wise. Good luck with that macron said:
