Practical Diesel - £4-5k?

Hey guys,

I am on the lookout for a diesel and something a bit more practical than my current cars.
I have a F82 M4 comp & a E46 330ci Cab. Both are not necessarily practical and fuel economy isn’t great. Not an issue up to this point, however needing to do a bit more mileage now and looking to add something else to the fleet and looking to keep the mileage down on these two as intend to keep them for the long term.

I am thinking an E39 or E60 5 series, however E60’s seem to have incredibly high mileage.
Also a E91 Touring also appeals or an X5 although slightly out of budget & fuel economy may not be much better than the M4.

It doesn’t need to be a BMW specifically however that is what I know and love 🤣.
Mercedes, Jag, VW etc could also work.
