Just watching Franz Ferdinand perform a cover of Toxic got me thinking.

It's a great song, but generally I don't like Britney Spears.

Equally, Some Kind of Bliss by Kylie is a great song, but I never like her thin voice.

Are there songs you really like, despite them being by artists you don't really like?

"Moving" by Supergrass. Not generally a fan of theirs but love that song.

"There Isn't Much" by Emeli Sandé. Can't get on with her voice at all usually but I love the production on that track.

Hate the band, but that’s a tune

I have a deep dislike of Coldplay - but very much enjoy Violet Hill.

I don’t dislike them, but find them generally very bland.

Fix You is a cracking song though.

Fairground - Simply Red.

Never liked anything by them before or after this song. Hearing it takes me back to 1995 in an instant.

No Regrets - Robbie Williams.

Great tune with Neil Tennant & Hannon doing some backing vocals. Nothing else he’s ever done has pricked up my ears.

Leaders of the Free World - Elbow.

I’ve tried with Elbow. Heard plenty of their songs, seen them on tv shows. I feel like I “should” really like them but somehow it’s never clicked apart from this song.

There's probably loads but off the top of my head

Smashing Pumpkins - 1979

One of my favourite songs, but I otherwise normally hate Billy Corgan's voice. See also Placebo with The Bitter End.

Rolling Stones - Gimme Shelter

I haven't heard anything else I like from them, though I can't say I've listened to their whole back catalogue!

Sting (as a solo artist) - Russians

Kings of Leon - Walls

I don't like Mick Hucknall as a person, I think he's a knob, and he supports Manchester United, but he's got a great voice (Frank Sinatra even said so) and is a great songwriter. His shows still sell out all over the world, from Australia to South America.

I've seen Simply Red around 20 times.

(He was in my brother's class at school in Denton and was a knob then)

I like several of their songs, but don't like them First of the Gang to Die and Everyday Is Like Sunday being examples.

I suspect being a knob and being prepared to perform in front of thousands of people often go together.

I try to disassociate the music from the person for that reason.

Ooh yeah that's a good example.

Suspect it might be quite a popular choice

There is absolutely no way anyone can deny that the Stone Roses listened to that constantly

Madonna's 'Borderline' is a perfect 80's pop song IMO and something of a guilty pleasure.

Never a fan of anything else she did

Agreed aside from Ray of Light, a housy tune she knocked out.

This Charming Man is brilliant too, I think, but is the only Smiths song I like.

Not a fan of the Spice Girls generally, but you'd have to have a heart of stone to not like Wannabe.

Wasn't that largely an updated version of "Zephyr in the sky" by an obscure British duo called something like "Curtiss Muldoon"? I remember reading an article in a newspaper about it.

I haven't heard the original so I don't know how different it is.
