Looks like bmw have confirmed there will be a new i3 touring.
You can choose fossil or EV powered.

Can’t wait for an ev i3 touring. Replacement for my model y.

Presumably the naming convention will be 3 series for the ICE variants and then i3 for the electric variants, as per what they are doing with the i4 and i5
