Dubai Chocolate
Discussion
Not tried and don't plan to due to the ridiculous price.
question is the price simply marketing hype and will come down to normal overtime or are the ingredients/process to make costlier than a 'normal' premium chocolate bar?
I appreciate pistachio price may have jumped but is it really any more significant than hazelnut/raisin/almond price (I'm thing of other nuts/fruits that are commonly added to choc bars)

It’s all marketing hype
None of them are “dubai style” anyway, the Dubai bar thats £10 has filo style pastry inside it.
The cheap shops have all launched one and from the reviews they’re all minging because they have such low pistachio content and none of them have pastry inside them which isn’t surprising
So they’re just pistachio chocolate bar, even the M&S one is less than 20% pistachios and they’ve got no pastry inside it either, they’ve used caramel most likely to balance the strong pistachios taste
Will fade out when something new comes along

It's the local gelato's number one most popular flavour by miles at the moment.
I bet they’ve just renamed their old pistachio flavour Edited by C4ME on Friday 25th April 18:28
A while back it was all about pistachio cream, made me laugh, the Lidl one was 7% pistachio and the rest sugar and rapeseed oil

They have done it surprisingly well. Belgium choc ice cream base layer, then layer of pistachio paste and crushed filo pastry, then layer of dark choc bar. This sort of stuff is too sweet for me overall but creative and a nice flavour combination.
I snapped a pic last month when it first appeared

Had the original one when I was visiting dubai as our hosts got all of their flavours …
Totally overpriced and the quality of the chocolate was not that great to my mind. ( I am spoilt as living in Switzerland) Having said that it wasn’t awful but not something I would get again from them.
The same company do a pretzel filled bar which I preferred
Last week tried Laderach’s ‘fresh’ version of it .. better than the original but still I find it too sweet.
Lindt do a version but saw its around 15 so again massively overpriced

In this week's Spectator Magazine.
The departures lounge at Charles de Gaulle yesterday had the Lindt version at €15 each for 145g bar. They had lots left....
This correspondant (and his 2 kids) did not purchase.
I'm not aware that Dubai is a centre of expertise on chocolate.
And fascinatingly, as I have no social media activity, the first I heard about it was here on PH.

Can't remember if it was mentioned here or not but there are a number of interviews with the creator out there. He originally created it just for his wife as while pregnant she got a taste for chocolate, pistachio kadayif and tahini all at the same time. Think there was also cream in the mix. The next year she talked him in to making more (think for a pregnant friend) and news got out there so he started making it commercially (small batches though). And fascinatingly, as I have no social media activity, the first I heard about it was here on PH.
I suspect the tahini helps counter the sweetness of the kadayif, also I think he uses dark chocolate not milk.

Ritter is decent, got a few mates who work there
Yeah, tbf I think mentioning 'Ritter' in the same sentence as this stuff from Dubai is probably a bit like comparing the weather and the current performance of S&P 500 shares - you can draw parallels, but none are really relevant such is the difference between them. Ritter's Milk Chocolate with whole hazlenuts used to be my go-to until the local stopped stocking it.Gassing Station | Food, Drink & Restaurants | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
