Dacia Duster Rust Protection
Discussion
After much deliberation I finally took delivery of a new 2025 Dacia Duster 1.6 hybrid this week which I’m extremely happy with. Absolutely love the car however there is an issue which is concerning me to do with corrosion protection…..
Whilst large areas of the underneath of the vehicle are protected with a sort of felt material, beneath this the brake lines are completely exposed with no plastic shrouding or anything to protect them from salt spray during the winter.
You can see more in this video where a new owner has investigated further:

In addition on the lower left hand side of the vehicle the brake lines are exposed completely with no protection from even any felt material.

Given that I am potentially looking at running the vehicle for up to ten years, albeit doing low mileage at 6k a year, I have two options…..
Option 1: Stop worrying and trust that the vehicle has enough winter protection applied from the factory. Early Dusters from the Indian factory were notorious for rusting but the ones built in Romania seem generally solid and I would expect a Mk2 model to see a decade of use easily so therefore the Mk3 should too….
Option 2: Get some rust protection applied professionally for peace of mind. This concerns me a bit as there is large battery under the rear of the car which I’d rather they didn’t contaminate in the process however I’m sure it will be fine if they are careful.
Which of these options would you recommend….? Thanks

I'm quite impressed with all that underbody protection, for road use it looks ideal. Better than my mk2 Duster, Hyundai or Mercedes.
The video guy was taking about off road stuff which doesn't really concern me.
ETA the MOT guy I use reckons to smear vulnerable brake lines with a bit of grease. Probably due on my 10y/o Hyundai, the Merc had rear brake lines replaced at about the 15yr mark.
