I guess the entomologists will be happy. I've not seen this for years, decades even. Remember the special prewash spray foams and special sponges we used to use back in the day? OK, it's nothing like it used to be, where the car would be absolutely plastered with bugs, but still.

That is a cool car if it's what I think it is... a Toyota century?

Top tip, keep a pack of fresh baby wipes in the car for removing the little sods from the windscreen/lights when you're halfway through a journey and haven't got time to do a full wash.

Had maybugs tapping against the window last night, first time in a few years.

I went hiking today and the amount of flies was ridiculous. I wonder if there's been a coming together of conditions to create an unusual amount of spring bug activity?

Thanks for the comments about the car. It is indeed a Toyota Century. My daily driver and occasional works van.

I was thinking the same thing - loads of splats, way more than recent years!

We live by Chew Lake and there are clouds (and I am being literal here) of them out now. It's quite funny to see the cyclists riding round the lake trying to swat them away....must be horrible to ride through a massive cloud of midges tho.

Mmm I thought the same thing myself last night
Wife’s and daughter had both been to the Peak District and I can’t recall it being like that since I was a kid.
It’s a nice thing to see.
Although the bad news is that a huge fires got hold near her house and the very thing that they’d live in had been destroyed and so have lots of their predators sadly.

Yep, they are back.
The front of my van is covered in them, but this is worse!

I was driving home and I noticed what I thought was a column of smoke was rising from a hedge which must be on fire.

Then I noticed hundreds of similar columns of flies every few yards.

I saw a cloud of lough neagh black flies out on wednesday massive massive swarm, looked like a dark haze just above head height in every direction.

Also saw a load of maybugs, never seen them before they were coming out of the ground all over and flying off.

Hopefully a good sign ecologically?

Same here in the NE and NYorks - drove to York and back this week from Newcastle and the front end of the car was almost a different colour thanks to the bug-splatters!

I did also notice though that my screenwash wasnt readily up to the task of removing their splatters from the screen so that needs some consideration when I go to refil it!

Watched a video on YT earlier (Life of Darren ) he commented on how many bugs there were, said it sounded like rain.
