Selling car: Do I redact all my info from the receipts ?
Discussion
Right then...
We're finally "chucking" our 21 year old BMW 1 series through We Buy Any Car... Yep I know we'll get bugger all for it, but we need to get rid.
I've a stack of receipts over the 13 years of ownership that contain a mix of Name, Address, Mobile and email address.
Do I wipe through all this lot with a secure roller to redact all the info or leave it as is and I'm being a paranoid nob head ??
Initially I was going to redact it all, but I'm actually not sure now.
I realise the V5 has my name and address on it, it's more the email address and phone number to be honest.

If you were buying a car, would you want the paperwork detailing its history ? I would.
I dont think redacting will make any difference, not sure what the info tells anyone other than you owned that specific car on those dates, it has your address but not sure what that info would provide, its all freely available anyway.
Worst case is the new owner gets in touch to ask a question, its not like you have any responsibility once its gone to WBAC.
Redact it by all means but would include it, a lot will just bin it but tot he right person that stuff is very helpful.

I did on the last few sales, just took off my name address and mobile number with a craft knife . They would be legally required to do the same but pretty much every car I’ve bought since they’ve left some clue to previous owner in there !
One of the cars I bought from WBAC had a lovely stack of paperwork the PO had bundled in, it included many receipts, his council tax bill for the year, a bank statement, and a bill from British Gas. It was like an identity theft starter pack!GeniusOfLove said:

how much are they giving you for a 21 year old 1 series?
I'll let you know what they gave vs what they offered tomorrow. This is its "good" side. The drivers front wing is rusty...
Don't be deceived by it's shiny looks, it has more in common with the Titanic when you look underneath.
