Just waiting to pick up a 355 Spider and thinking of upgrading the exhaust to a Capristo. While the stage 2 & 3 sound fantastic are they just a bit too loud for everyday driving on a touring holiday with the wife!? Was thinking the stage 1 might be more civilised? Don't they all sound the same above 5k anyway?

Thanks

They're all the same when the valve opens.
I've got a 2.
I'd opt for 1 or 2.

Thanks Andrew - I'm thinking as it's a Spider the noise might be a bit excessive on a long run with the wife! My thoughts are a stage 1 but then don't know if I'm wimping out!

I've found that on the move, 2 is just fine. The engine is typically above 2k rpm and the noise is all behind you.
It's on'y a bit overbearing if you're stuck in a long traffic jam.

I’ve got a stage 2 and they are fantastic exhausts. Valve remote is worth buying too.

Best sounding Ferrari in my opinion. Once the exhaust is fitted.

Enjoy your new toy. What’s the spec?

1998 Spider manual in red. Once I get it I'll post some pics. So you don't find the Stage 2 too noisy whilst cruising at 80ish?

Hi Rari,
Looking at your profile I can see you've had a number of 355's - anything in particular I need to be mindful of regarding upkeep.
Thanks

80mph would be breaking the law!

Cruising at 70mph is awesome and I can only imagine it must sounds glorious at any higher speed ??

The 355 is quick enough and the fun part is moving through the gears in the rev range, ie actually driving the car. The 355 top end power band curve is 5k revs and above up to the 8.5k line. Use it! They need to be revved to get the most out of them.

Make sure your roof works. These need to be cycled regularly or the hydraulic fluid can gum up over time. Make sure the car is serviced and cambelted on time. As long as they are looked after then they are great cars. Yes I’ve had a few over the years and would hate to be without one. I prefer it to the 458 I had and ran both at the same time.

Hopefully none of your interior is sticky so check that too and all too kits are present including the emergency roof one beside the hand brake in addition to the one in the front trunk.

We look forward to seeing the pictures

Thanks Rari, really appreciate those useful owner comments. I've spent the whole day decorating the garage to welcome the new toy! - sad I know!
Will post pics once in my possession.

I had a decat level 3 Capristo, sounded wonderful, but the drone will absolutely destroy you.
Level 1 decat would be perfect I think.

So I've decided to go down the Capristo Stage 2 exhaust - do I need to get the ecu remapped for this?
Thanks

Good choice Reggie. I suggest buying the capristo valve and valve controller as well.

Then all you need to do is push the car through about 3,800 rpm to open the valve up to the red line line of 8,500rpm and feel the smile on your face as you go through the gears!!

Oh then go find a tunnel and try it again!
