So my 2005 BMW X5 3.0d was written off after being reversed in to at work.

I was essentially paid out £2000 and did not want another X5. This left me looking at XC90 and Touareg.

Obviously, I have ended up with a D5 XC90. But what you can get for £2000 these days in terrible. Spares and repairs going for £1000-1500 etc.

So its the 2.4 D5, 6 speed auto, worn cream leather interior but comfortable, 7 seats with 3rd row folding (I had to youtube how to fold these down!) 182 BHP model. Tax is through the roof, I should have maybe gone for the slightly earlier model but its done now.

It's been looked after and had money spent on it over the years with servicing and tyres and track and tie rods etc and had the cambelt done, It is on 170,000 miles now though.

Anyway the car was for me to get to work and back and to hack around with the family with some space and double buggy in the boot. But my Mrs has just informed me that or my birthday in July she has booked for us to go to Cornwall. So that means the car need to be ready for the 5 1/2 hour each way drive.

Mainly being, the air con does not work. I got some new headlight bulbs at Halfords and they checked the aircon gas me for and there is gas in the system. They seem to think the compressor kicked in but this needs checking properly. When I drive with the aircon switched on and the fans turned on there is a whooshing noise from behind the dash and the engine sounds louder. When the air con is switched off but the fans are still on the noise from behind the dash and the engine noise seems to disappear. So if anyone has has similar I would appreciate where to start. I have seen some posts online but not had the time to really sit and read, but this involves shims and the clutch plate but this seems to be more aimed at intermittent air con where mine has not worked since ownership.

First things first will be a full service and have a look over the car. Suspension seems smooth but the engine seems a little jolty when pulling away so assuming there is engine mountings needing replacement and probably the lower gearbox mount.

I would like some black leather if I can find a set within reason.

Look at the paint on the rear quarter and see what can be done there too.

I want to look at the swirl flaps and possible removal.

MOT is due in October so while getting the car ready for Julys trip, I need to also make sure stuff I do has the car ready for another year.

Updates soon. Good to be back in another D5, I previously had an S60.
