Hi

I've seen a rare part for sale on eBay in Germany. They 100% will not post (understandable), nor accept a courier to collect as they feel happier it's inspected (easily done) and packed safe for the return trip.

I wonder whether a friendly man and van might do this sort of thing...? It's a 600 mile return trip!

I unfortunately do not have the time at present.

Only other issue is I guess VAT and duty would need to be paid at the crossing.....? Not sure how this works in practice?

Never done/considered this before.

Thanks very much.

Cheers.

I’d try to use somebody recommended. I had an absolute nightmare with Shiply- couriers not turning up etc.

Let's keep this hypothetical for now! biggrin If an individual with a van on the forum would be prepared to do this, would it be financially viable? The benefit would be that you would have a car guy inspecting the part and liaising with you when stood in front of it. The downside might be that the cost could be prohibitive when done by an individual rather than an actual courier.

In principle, I could do it, I just don't know how practical a suggestion it is.

A pity you didn't post this last week, I drove back from Prague in an empty 3.5t van!

What sort of thing is it, where, and how big?

I'd probably just rationalise/man maths a weekend break and go get it myself.

If it's rare, needs inspection and collection, no couriers, then you need to make time for a roadtrip. We run to Saarlouis from Kent regularly in a car and it takes 4.5-6 hrs with a short toilet/lunch stop.

All thoughts appreciated.

Would need a small van really. Even pushing man maths to the limit, I don’t think it’s a goer.

I suspect it would need to be declared in some way as a purchase requiring me to pay all sorts of duties and tax.

It’s a shame - really need to find someone who might be doing the journey for another reason!

Cheers

As I’m among friends!

It’s a Akraprovic OEM option exhaust. Not cheap, never seen sold over here secondhand, and much more/too expensive new, if a dealer is even prepared to special order one!

Theres a lot of people with vans making runs to and from the Nurburgring on a fairly regular basis if you know where to find them. Not sure which part of Germany you are looking for collection though? If it is near the Nurburgring theres a garage called Crown Performance who could probably offer some help and advice for a fee, they are pretty reasonable people to deal with and are British which makes the language barrier easier potentially.

There won't be duties.

Country of Origin for Akrapovic is Slovakia, and so free trade agreement applies. There will be VAT - if bought from a business, then you can reclaim 'local' VAT (or not have it charged to begin with), then use the receipt as part of the import declaration for the VAT.

It’s in Götschetal, quite far east.

Hi thanks. It a business eBay seller. So I could just drive through the boarder/crossing with it in a van without any issue? Cheers

Not 'without issue' - you'll need to declare it, and pay the VAT on entry. When leaving Germany, you can reclaim the VAT you've paid to the German seller.
