G87 M2 Comp - it is huge!
Discussion
I was at my BMW dealer this morning and one of the techs was moving a G87 M2 into the parking space next to me.
It does look much much more attractive in the metal than in pictures, for sure, but it looked absolutely huge next to my E92 M3. Never noticed the size in pictures/videos, but my M3 next to it looked like an original Mini, next to a current MINI.
I believe it is on the same platform as the M4, so that is going to be the deciding/limiting factor, but all the same, if you want a small/wieldy M-car, where do you look?
A 1 or 2 gen old M8 must be about the same size?

This is why and also why it weighs so much. I hated them initially however there is one that parks near me at the station car park ... growing on me. Think certain colours look better than others. It does look much much more attractive in the metal than in pictures, for sure, but it looked absolutely huge next to my E92 M3. Having had a F87 OG M2 new in 2017 and kept that for three years before jumping to a GT4 we now also have added a G87 M2. The G87 is in a different league to the F87.
Yes it’s bigger than the OG M2 but the G87 M2 is a great car and very quick. Not as dynamically good as my GT4 but a very good car at the price point.
If you’re thinking about one try to get an extended test drive.
My local dealership threw me the keys to the sales manager’s car and said see you in a couple of hours. That was a solo test drive for two hours and that was enough to seal the deal so to speak and then negotiated a deal and six weeks later we had a new G87 M2.

OG M2
The F87 isn't really small though, to be totally honest. It used the M4 axles, meaning the track width was the same as the bigger car. Only the wheelbase is shorter. Oddly, the cabin on the F87 actually has more space for the rear passengers, despite it remaining 2 Series.Drove a G80, and no doubt it s a more capable and better daily than my F80, but it didn t have the same raw feeling. Muted by OPF filters and emission regulations, gearbox was less enjoyable, longer gearing, lower redline, and you can feel the extra weight (although is doesn t effect handling at all). My F series looks diddy next to a G80.
If I was having to do the office and nursery run, I would go for a G series, but for occasional daily use and just being a fun thing to blast about in, the f series wins from my perspective. I think the further back you go with m cars, they become less daily capable but more weekend fun. Faster and more capable doesn t equal more fun in my book.
The newer G87 colours and the addition of more silver wheels have definitely improved the looks.

Yet the E92 is 35mm longer although perhaps the M2 looks bigger because it's more bulbous rather than the sleeker E92.nickfrog said:
