I know some people have nicknames for their cars, but we don't really name them officially as we do boats and planes etc. I suppose they have model names, but they are not personal to the specific vehicle.

What would you call your car, or a certain model of car, if so?

Why don't we name them? Even very small boats are named, ones similar in size, cost etc to cars, so why not cars?

Trains are named.

There was a documentary on C4 a few years ago about men who name their cars, there also used to be a picture that would often get posted on here but would probably get you banned now.

One of my cars is called The Flying Carrot, or just The Carrot.



Now my other cars also have fruit-and-vegetable-themed colour-based nicknames, including "The Rotting Blueberry" and "The plodding Aubergine"

The only person I know who named a car was a slightly batty old "Aunt" who ran a Morris Minor as her only car in the 1980s and 1990s.
The car was called "Gloria", pronounced "Glorial" as she was from Bristol.
Pretty much every time she came to visit, there would be some drama with the car either breaking down or falling to bits.

I think there was a suggestion at the time number plates were being invented to use names and locations instead of just numbers and letters. So just like boats. Not sure how serious a suggestion it was though.

Eddie Stobart gave their trucks names, and some coach operators certainly used to.

My Riley is known as 'Riley Blue' for obvious reasons:

My Bond Equipe was named 'Bertie' by the restorer Chic Doig over thirty years ago, and the name has stuck, despite a change of ownership.
We had a Vauxhall Isignia named 'Bungaroosh', because it seemed lightly built, and a metallic blue Volvo named 'Ushtey', which is Manx for water.
