Goodbye Bentley
Discussion
Last night we lost my little black shadow.
Nearly 8 years ago I made a plan to get a dog to help mum with her chemo & keep her company (well to look after the dog while I went to work). He kept her on her toes till she sadly passed.
He is the best thing I ever did as he was amazing. Loved a cuddle, was cheeky, loved us all being a softy and best of all loved his food.
Dog was in a lot of pain Friday so rushed him to the Mrs_G who's a vet nurse who xray'd him and could only find a swollen stomach. Knocked him out and put a tube in to get out what we thought was air but liquid came out.
She brought him home off his face and we booked to go see a out of hours vet the next day as they said let him rest see how he is. We hoped it was a bad gastritis bug doing it but knew it could be bad and prepped a bit. Mrs_G woke me at 1:30 am saying he's gone down hill so going to the 24hr specialist down the road. I gave him a cuddle, said goodbye and on the way (its 10 minutes from my house) he passed away. He wasn't in pain due to the meds but he deteriorated so fast as in less than 12 hours. He is now with a cremation place locally, we are not doing an autopsy it wont change anything.
We knew his life would be shorter than normal due to elbow issues, he already had plates and pins in one to which we kept on top of pain meds but he had a fantastic life & was never a problem at all but didn't think it would be this short.
Love & miss you my little cheese eating mate we are all devastated especially Little_G.
Rest well and look after our other loved ones x

I’m so sorry for your loss. Fly high Bentley.
Bentley looks like he was a very handsome chap.
Everything they say about labradors is true and then some - loving, loyal (and food “motivated” of course!)
I’ve seen a dog instagram meme recently and one of the lines is that you know you would stop time for them if you could. I know I would.

He is now home with us and the cremation chap put some hair into keyrings for us with paw and nose prints which well broke me.
We had just fully restocked his food etc before passing so I took it to a local dog rescue today and spotted on the board they had re homed a Bentley this month so was a moment to make me smile. They really appreciated the donation along with the near £1000 worth of medication we had just bought for his leg
at least its really going to help others and that's the main thing.
No plans to get another as not sure I can go through this all again.
Thank you all for your kind words x

Well done for that gesture, I am sure that the rescue were really grateful. Give yourself time.
Sorry to hear about Bentley, Kev.
looks a really handsome feller with a knowing look.
Understand the cheese bit, our Lucy passed 4 weeks ago tomorrow, was always there for cheese (or ham). We no longer have a "pre-wash" on the dishwasher either as our other dog isn't interested.
RIP but run free through the long grass Bentley.

Child came in from school today and dropped some gingerbread man saying it was for Bentley.. He didn't arrive and we chuckled.
Also sorry for the loss of Lucy, hopefully they are bouncing round after cheese together
