The rest of the internet seems to be talking about it so why not on PH too?

100 unarmed men (you can choose who) vs biggest silverback gorilla.

Apparently a gorilla can pick up and throw something weighing 800 kg…

Although the gorilla is heavily outnumbered the problem for the men is that without weapons how would they kill it?

Maybe in theory the men could subdue it but it would require some of the men to attack knowing they would be killed.

I think an equivalent would be the world strongest man against 100 toddlers.

Keep seeing stuff about this, is it this week's equivalent of making yourself into a packaged doll?

Ultimately 100 men could probably smother it as bees do to hornets and cause it to overheat and die. 100 men weigh most likely 7-8 tons vs a gorrilas of 275kg. The gorrila probably isn’t the hardest thing of its weight for humans to defeat as it doesn’t have as much sharp stuff.

A 300kg Lion which has 5 killing tools probably somewhat more difficult…

It’s not anything like your toddler analogy though.

The bite force of a gorilla is 1300 psi. A lion is 650. A human around 160.

I'd pick 100 Jon Jones just to watch Jon get beat 100 times.

In theory, if the men worked like ants and were prepared to sacrifice themselves, they would win (with HEAVY casualties). In reality, many men would die and the rest would retreat.

In theory I'd say 100 men, as whilst a gorilla is big and strong, it's not partcularly aggressive and so has little fighting experience.

A more interesting contest might be with a chimpanzee.

Those erring towards the men winning need to watch some video of a big male gorilla fighting. It's not only their incredible strength, but their speed is unreal. Plus they have canines like a big cat.

The only thing going for the men is the gorilla isn't at all well hung, so getting bummed to death is unlikely.

This. They are not that aggressive, but if threatened you (and the 99 others) would have no chance.

The gorilla is not going to sit still for a 100 man pile on so it would only have to deal with those within reach, 6 or 7 men at a time, assuming any are stupid enough. Pulling the legs off flies springs to mind. The result would be a pile of 100 dead men and one slightly breathless gorilla - relaxing in the mist after a job well done. smile

I did read, admittedly a few years ago so my memory may be a little fuzzy, that a chimpanzee has the strength to literally rip a mans arm off. Now compare a chimp to a full grown, silverback gorilla! 100 men would be beaten to death by the gorilla using the first two men as clubs to beat the rest with! When one of the 'clubs' becomes unusable, the bloody remains would be tossed aside and a fresh one taken, repeated as and when necessary! Would be a bloodbath! Even Chuck Norris would walk away! hehe

The 34% of Brits who feel that they couldn't beat a house cat in a fight are slightly concerning. laugh

(I've no experience of rats, so I didn't pick that)

Is it just all in a pit, or in the wild where we can play tactics and build stuff?

I was under the impression chimps were 10 times as strong as men until recently. Not so. Adjusting for our greater weight, they're about the same (chimps approx 1/3 stronger per unit mass). However... they have more fast twitch muscle as a percentage, and obviously would bite, but the numbers seem to suggest if you could outlast the initial flurry they would tire very quickly allowing the human's greater mass and stamina to win the day.

You go first though... laugh

There’s the psychological impact as well on the 90 watching the first 10 guys getting destroyed to unrecognisable mush. You can be as motivated as possible until you watch Steve, Andy & Dave get their heads caved in, Bob has his face pulled off, Eric’s chest gets flattened and Chris, Alex, George, Pete and Phil get limbs torn off. The urge to GTFO is going to be pretty strong I suspect after witnessing what you’ve signed up to
