What can I do with an IMEI number and SIM card number?

I have a thing with a 4g chip and SIM card installed.

I want to find out if the IMEI is locked without the manufacturer knowing about it (in case they then blacklist the IMEI).

Ultimately I want to be able to use my own data sim with the thing without anyone else being able to mess with it.

So - what can I do with my current level of information comprising the IMEI number and SIM card number?

SIM is with Orange.

Are you sure its 4G??

4G launched in Oct 2012, and Orange ceased to exist (consumeed by EE) 2 years prior to that?

A telco wouldn't ordinarily blacklist an IMEI if you asked to unlock it.
AFAIK they would only blacklist them if reported stolen or the bill isn't paid.
