DB9 rough idle. P0605 Powertrain Control Module ROM test err
Discussion
Hi all.
My 2005 DB9 has developed a rough idle. I've used two different code readers, Autel and Snap On, and they've both returned the code above. It seems to me that one of the engine ECU's is faulty or needs a reflash?? My car has been having a full paint job over the last 10 months and with the battery going flat a few times, I suspect that's caused the issue, or maybe it's just coincidence. It starts no problem and passed its MoT with no problems getting through the emissions test.
Anyone had this or have any knowledge of the issue?
Thanks

Does the car drive and run OK but just a rough idle?
Any other fault codes?
If your car has previously been mapped or primary cats removed you will get the rom error that's because the PCMs have been reprogrammed.
Rough idle could be a vacuum leak, check all the vacuum hoses, have the inlet manifolds come off recently? common problem is a vacuum leak at the manifold gasket?
Are the coil packs and plugs OK?
Finally get a Foxwell 530 with the Aston programmed in, this will read the secondary bank, not just the primary bank like most other OBD readers will.

Hi Paul, thanks for your reply.Any other fault codes?

The car has been remapped along with the primary cat removal and replacement secondary high flow cats done at BR. You may remember speaking with me after I had it done, as you were considering the same. The only other codes are P1000 (system check not completed since last memory clear) and P1488 (muffler bypass control circuit), both I assume are to do with the remap. I've looked at the misfire monitoring on the two 'gameboys' and they're both showing clear.
I replaced two coils and plugs about 600 miles ago. I was going to do all 12 but Mike suggested I only did 7&9 that were failing. It ran fine for a while after but did have some hesitation under full throttle when I was driving it to West Wales for its paint job. The airboxes were removed but the air flow meters not moved. I am thinking of doing all of the other coils and plugs so that'll be an opportunity to replace the manifold gaskets.
I will get the Foxwell NT530 (my Mrs. has a V8VS so it'll be handy for both cars) and check over all of the pipes.

Yeah I get all those codes too, no problem, the P1000 will go after some driving, are your coils 2 or 3 pin? the cars with 2 pin coils do run slightly rough due to the coils not earthed properly, this was cured with the 3 pin coils, the 3rd cable being an earth cable. Next time I replace the coils on my car i'm going to do a mod to convert it to 3 pin coils. The car has been remapped along with the primary cat removal and replacement secondary high flow cats done at BR. I would clean both the MAF sensors, they may have got some paint contamination.
If you get the Foxwell 530, you will be able to see alot of live data, the best one is the long term fueling trims both for primary and secondary banks, they should be very low or negative, it they are around +20 and you can smell alot of petrol from the exhaust you probably got a vacuum leak as the car is adding more fuel via the fuel injectors to try to get the car to run at lambda 1.
If you car has successfully completed the rundown procedure the misfire monitor will be working so again using the foxwell you can get the misfire readings -

Mike advised me a few years ago because the car has more power due to the primary cat delete put in a slightly cooler spark plug, so i put in a NGK plug SITR7A11G 94949, they are compatible with the glass key DB9, DBS Vanquish & V12V.

Hope this helps.
