Wondering if it's really worth using genuine parts now when aftermarket parts are available!

Last year, I purchased a brand new alarm module for the DB9 from HWM in Walton-upon-Thames after I was getting the "alarm system service required" message.

It's a pretty straightforward replacement inside the NSR wheel arch, so off I trotted to HWM to purchase one. All good, went home, installed it and been ok ever since, until this last weekend.

Car displayed the same "alarm system service required" message so I called HWM enquiring about the parts warranty. 12 months as expected, and as with any other main dealer of any other manufacturer, as it's an electrical part, it must be checked, diagnosed and replaced by them under warranty.

That's all fine

BUT.............

they will charge diagnosis time AND labour to replace, even if it's a parts warranty job!!!! The warranty should include the replacement cost.

So, they will charge even if the part is faulty. Any other manufacturer I have ever come across will only charge if it IS NOT a warranted part.

So they do not warrant any part you install yourself? That's BS unless they can show that the part has failed due to incorrect installation or use.

May as well save your money and fit aftermarket parts at a fraction of the AM prices if you get no warranty back-up from the main dealer.

Going to look into getting the part now from Volvo aftermarket because AM's labour charges to diagnose and fit will far outweigh the parts cost.

Not happy with this dealer experience.
