We need a new rug for the living room. Maybe 6’ by 4’.

I detest rugs that curl up at the corners and/or trip you up, get rucked up, or require that separate mesh rubber sheeting underneath.

We have wooden floors.

Ideally I would just put in a big doormat, like you get in banks etc, but Madam has torpedoed that idea. She (rightly) wants something a bit nicer underfoot.

So does any firm produce a solid, rubber-backed schmuggy rug?

They do, but it’s better to get a separate underlay. They’re weirdly sticky but not sticky, long story short they keep the rug in place but don’t do any damage to the floor. Any carpet/rug shop will be able to supply.

Turtle mats? They are really entrance mats but they are rubber backed and come in a variety of sizes.

We have a number from rugs direct, you want the ones with the gel anti slip backing. Love ours, we've 3 dogs and the rugs take a lot of abuse and clean up well. They stay flat as well, though we get the flat weave ones (easier to clean) so that may be a factor.

Yep Ruggable

We’ve got one, also on a wood floor. The rubber backing is separate so the fabric part can be machine washed.

Have to say I’m quite impressed with my ruggable. It’s massive so not sure how it’ll fit in the washing machine but a year in and it’s still spotless anyway.

Just watch out for what it does to your floor finish...

Lounge floor is Osmo over solid oak parquet.. finish had been on for over a year before we put a rubber backed rug down... there's been an odd reaction and you can see the texture of the rubber backing in the floor finish where it has made it darker/been in contact (isn't due to UV.. definitely a reaction between rubber and Osmo)

Rubber can mark floors and wood

Found this out a few times, car tyres on foam vinyl hall flooring in a uni rental, hifi turntable on a nice wooden sideboard, etc.

All depends what's in the rubber backing I guess, but we have had no such issues with Turtle matt. And clear gel back should be fine.
