I had this thought last night, not sure why...

If you won a million pounds, would you tell your partner / wife / husband / lover?

I wouldn't.

It would be difficult to hide the income away and use it as I wanted, but worth the effort, i.e. opening another dedicated bank account etc.

You might want to consider the relationship you're in.

I have a very traditional relationship, everything that is mine is ours and everything that is hers is hers

laugh

In all seriousness, yes I'd tell her, after 35 years together we don't have secrets

I wouldn't tell anyone else though

Difficult question. See my recent posts about current state of my relationship. Obviously if she found out some time after winning it would seriously allow her to question our marriage.
On balance, I'd tell her. And retire.

I’m not sure I could hide it when I turned up with a few new cars. Then split the balance.

I wouldn’t

My wife is exceptionally generous and would want to give a big chunk of it to Charity.

I’d probably tell her we’d won £100k so that she only suggests donating £20k

I’m interested why you wouldn’t.

We've been together for 24 years, of course I'd tell her!? What an odd question.

We both know exactly how much we have as it's all 'ours' at the end of the day.

Trouble is I probably couldn’t contain the excitement!

I’d like to think that Initially I could keep it quiet, but as soon as I’d cleared the mortgage and organised her the trip to NZ she’s always wanted to do I think id just have to sit her down and give her the good news

I pity your partner / wife / husband / lover. Stuck with someone that would do this, they should get out quick.

I’d mention I won something but would probably state a lower figure like 500k. Else she’d spend it… laugh

£1m? Sure. It's enough to upgrade to a house with land. Technically our plans to do that anyway but without a mortgage, so would be good. I may however lie slightly about the new car I'd get. "Only cost 40k, you know what old db12 aston martins are like for depreciation.."

Hehe.

Maybe I’m old fashioned but why the hell not.
Not really much of a relationship if you didn’t.

You don't have a partner. You have a housemate, who may have been a partner in the past, and who you might even still be married to. You need to extricate yourself from your current situation, just in case you do win £1m in the future.
