In the news recently we have the much maligned RFK going after swathes of the American food and pharmaceutical industries, and Spain banning all processed foods from schools.

Meanwhile globally there is a lot of talk about microplastics in products produced by companies such as Dupont who have already been subject to a number of law suits.

It seems to me like there's a large crossover in those concerned by things like 'chemtrails', microplastics, a manufactured opioid crisis, and processed foods, but some of these concerns will have you dismissed as a conspiracy loon.

Tens of millions of Brits vehemently object to what they deem corporate greed but would they not view a company pushing sugar to kids in the same light as those dumping sewage into lakes and rivers?

Not quite sure what the question is but I don't think I've seen anyone labelled a conspiracy theorist for thinking there's way too much processing and meddling with what goes into way too many foods in this country confused

Industrialisation of food is the issue here. If this topic interests you then I would recommend that you read a book called ‘ultra processed people’. It’s rather a polemic and could have got its point across in two chapters, but its thesis is, I think, spot on.

The processed food issue in this country and everywhere else actually, is down to optimisation of food as an industrial product.

It is optimised for palatability, so that you enjoy it and so come back for more and of course eat too much of it. This is why it is stuffed with sugar and fat, which is exactly the combination that leads to obesity. The palatability has nothing to do with quality food preparation. It is optimised for storage properties hence preservatives and tomatoes picked unripe and transported green, then exposed to ethylene to turn them red, without them developing proper flavour. It is optimised for profitability hence the use of cheap materials processed to make them more acceptable, like mechanically recovered meat and the use of polysaccharides derived from bacteria. It’s optimised for transport and storage hence strawberries that look lovely but taste of nothing.

Oh and RFK is much maligned for a very good reason- he is the sad tail end of a political dynasty. Too thick to be great, without the intelligence to understand what he is talking about, but still with the political nouse to hang onto the coat tails of a vile agglomeration of fascists and wannabe tyrants to keep his political head above water.
