Don't think you'll find to many unhappy owners on here, they are very tuneable for not loads of dosh, and its also a very helpful and friendly forum here. Do a search for anything in particular. Also have a look at www.hsvdriversclub.co.uk

Hi, welcome to the forum!

The car you are refering to is commonly known as the 2004 CV8 (the 05 has the tank in the boot)

In standard trim, it should turn in fuel figures of around 20-24mpg, depending on how you drive. Servicing is nothing to be concerned about. It is a releatively simple car, so servicing costs are resonable.

Build quality isn't VW but its pretty good.

Reliability has certainly never been a concern for me. Done almost 30,000 and the worst i've had was some loose jubilee clips on the power steering hoses! My wifes New beetle has gone wrong a lot more often!

As for tuning, how much do you want!!! A simple re-map will, with some good clutch control, see you to a sub 14 second 1/4 mile. Upto to 450bhp is easily achievable without any significant engine work. Go here for further info and prices. www.monkfishperformance.com

Any questions, just ask. Plenty of people here with lots of experience!

Mine is superb, i would reccomend even better that my it eclispes most of my previous cars including M3 CSL, Ferrari 456, TVR Cerbs & t350c - but isnt quite as good as a 996. Although its a true 4 seater and in comparitive terms dirt cheap.

It seemsvery robust. I have had a new gearbox under warranty, but the cars have a 3 year gtee so offer little to worry about...

Benno - I am interested in your gearbox issue - would mind giving a summary of what your problem was as mine has become increasingly noisy and 'clunky' recently.

Cheers

Surprised about the box too. T56's are very strong gearboxes.

rumbly / whirring / zizz on the rearward gears, i.e. 2,4,6.

garage looked at it and made noises, Vauxhall inspected it and confirmed it was a duff bearing on the main shaft.

To their credit it was no problem, repair carried out swiftly and car is great once again.
