How do people listen to Radio Le Mans whilst at the circuit?

I’m going to the race for the third time this year. For the last couple of years I’ve used the small radio that came with my tickets - the one that hooks over your ear. To be honest, although it does the job, I’ve never particularly got on with it so am looking for suggestions of alternatives.

I’m not interested in a massive set like the ones in the official store: https://boutique.lemans.org/en/hearing-protection/...

I think I’d like something that I can use with earphones when trackside or has a built in speaker for when at the campsite. Small. Lightweight. Long battery life. Durable.

Ideas?

Do they broadcast on DAB or is it only FM?

I have an Aiwa R-22 personal radio with earphones. I also have a small Sony ICF-P27 radio with a speaker if I want to listen at the campsite. TBH I mostly use the Aiwa these days as when I’m at the campsite I’m listening to music with a portable speaker.

Its just FM or a live stream.
would some bluetooth in ear phones
work for you with a suitable radio.

I had forgotten about Aiwa as a brand - I had a few bits of Aiwa kit back in the 90s! I like the look of the RS-33 for my purposes - thanks. The Sony was on my shortlist already, but it seems it's hard to find - not available on Amazon UK at the moment.

Thanks for confirming. I didn't think it was on DAB.
I had thought about just using my AirPods with my phone, but I wonder whether streaming introduces a noticeable delay?

There are radio apps that you can stream if happy with data usage. Apple ear pods would work well with that option. WiFi was actually very good last time I was in ACO stand. May look at this as option myself this year.

However, I’m a big fan of the peltor ear defenders with the radio built in. Active hearing ones so you can have ambient noise also if you want.

Or just a simple radio and headphones. Any wired option I quickly got sick of though.

I use the peltors, they are great.
I should have used them many years ago as now have to wear hearing aids due to 'environmental' ear damage!

I’ll second the Peltor recommendation. They aren’t cheap but they are ear defenders too. They also remove all the faff of wired headphones and the batteries last a lifetime unlike Bluetooth devices.

I was highly impressed with this gentleman’s set up a few years back;

Just buy a cheap no-name FM radio for <£10 from Amazon and a pack of AA batteries - All the branded radios are DAB these days.

I'm sure we've all got multiple sets of wired earphones in a drawer to use instead of the rubbish ones that come with the radio, if you have some with soft rubber 'bungs' they make a good seal from external noise - or you can have one ear 'in' and can still make polite conversation with your dreadful comrades.

I like to roam the circuit so won't always be on WiFi. I think it'll be a simple radio and earphones for me. I've taken a look at the Peltor - they look great, but perhaps more than I think I need.

Good tip on the rubber-tip earphones. I certainly have some in a drawer.

There's an iPhone app called 'Radio UK' that you can listen to Radio Le Mans through if you just wanted to listen via whatever earbuds you use

Like wise my Android phone has a built in FM Radio. Only issue is recharging it.

I always use FM radio's. The closer we get to the race, the slower the data networks become.

Trackside I use the before mentioned Peltor headset with bateries. They work good as earprotection en listening to Radio Le Mans, the downside is that they are a bit to warm and sweaty to the ears when it is hot during the day.

At the campsite we have a small travel FM radio that we hookup to a JBL speaker.

I always bring a powerbank to the track and we have a generator at the campsite.
