Hi All,

Yesterday I picked up my wife's "new" Mk7.5 Golf R from a VW main dealer - very nice car it is too!

On the official VW advert it stipulates within the features that it has the reversing camera as one of the extras. However, upon getting the car and reversing it on to the drive, it transpires it doesn't have the camera at all! Not the best as that's one of the features that drew my wife to this particular car along with some of the other excellent spec it has.

I have written to the dealership and am awaiting a response and will be following up today. I just wanted to ask if anyone has had any experience of an advertised feature not actually being on their car before and if they were successful in getting the dealership to rectify it...in this case retrofit it? My wife's pretty annoyed as she sees it as false advertising but isn't sure if VW are going to play ball here and get it sorted. Hence I thought I would ask on here just in case!

Otherwise a great car. I have a Mk7 R and this definitely is much nicer and the 7 speed gearbox does wonders for how it drives and responds so she made a good choice! Here it is anyway just to share a picture. I know some aren't in to black wheels but the colour combo does look great in the flesh! smile

If it was really that an important feature, why did you not check for it on the test drive?

Hi Geeks,

A totally valid question for sure. The car wasn’t test driven as it was based at a dealership over 3 hours away. Hence the car was reserved and arranged to trade her previous VW in with them so the first time of being with the car in person was yesterday upon collection.

There is usually something in the advert that states adverts may be incorrect, i guess all you can do is call the dealer and ask them.

If not try VW retrofits in Reditch, they can pretty much do anything

Might be a tad overkill but you could reject the car on the basis of it not being sold as advertised. However, fitting a rear view camera is a pretty easy job so I would ask the garage to do that.

Or ask them to pay for the job to be done locally to the op.

Thank you very much indeed guys and I really appreciate it!

The place in Redditch I had heard of before so that's great to hear they are recommended smile

Yep I don't think she will return the car as otherwise it's perfect but I was also thinking it's not a major job to get it done by the dealer.

Can't alway rely on Google AI but punching in the query in there seems to indicate indeed you either return the car or you can seek the work to be done under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Hope it doesn't have to turn into a major, major argument and they are reasonable about it.

As it is, which I haven't mentioned, they were due to repair kerb rash on a couple of wheels before we collected it. Upon collecting it they hadn't been done so it's been agreed (due to the distance we live from the dealer) that I get a formal quote from a company locally to repair them and they will cover that cost.

Was this a car made in the COVID era where they were having to ship cars with features missing due to supply chain problems?

Looking at the old spec sheet for a model to pick the one you want is used car buying 101, it's going to be difficult buying cars made in that period!

Absolutely that would be great. We have a VW dealer in our local town.

Unless the dealer repeated that or referenced it in his advert then I think that you may have a weak case.

(I appreciate that it's annoying as you shouldn't have to say: "of the '78' features that are standard on this model, as advertised by VW, are any missing or did VW add/subtract anything for the build of this particular car?")

Check for a sticker on the boot/service book for the 3 digit/character option codes.

Worst case, it was built with the reversing camera, but got rearended and was repaired cheaply... Highly unlikely, but better to find out now rather than later.

Will also let you know what other options you (don't) have.

Great. I'm with bad company then: ask them to pay for it to be fitted locally. Time to phone them and have a chat smile

Perhaps a daft question but have you actually checked for a camera? Are you sure that it's not a wiring/software etc. fault?

Yep I have checked all of the rear for the camera and there’s also no settings for it within the infotainment so definitely not there sadly.

Thank you very much indeed and that’s a great tip! Had no idea you could check that!

A long shot, but has someone turned the reversing camera function off?

I was trying to look for it in the infotainment but couldnt find it anywhere. If it was going to be anywhere it would be in the parking menu of the system and it wasnt. However will check again
