... about posting pics 750 wide?

There are a lot of good pictures ruined by the clunky resizing on here. (I understand why the resizing, that's not an issue.)
I know if I'm using firefox, I can do "view picture" but I don't always have access to that and other browsers aren't as friendly that way. Anyway, doing that spoils the flow of a thread and for the multi pic threads it's a PITA. (Also a PITA is viewing a resized image that's only 800 wide, presumably people posting are smart enough to work resize but why not do 750 for on here?)

So how about a sticky detailing this info and suggesting people post pics at 750 and if required, put a link to a higher res?

To post a pic:

Use the [pic] and [/pic] tags to surround the URL of the picture.

If the picture is larger than 750pixels wide then script on PH will resize it to 750px to prevent horizontal scroll bars appearing.

Therefore, if your pic is bigger it's wise to also display the actual link below the picture so that people can easily view it in its original format too.

And for portrait format I usually use 500 pixels wide otherwise they seem to take up too much forum space and it looks greedy!

How about instructions to resize and compress using PS, which seems the most common software amongst us?

A well-deserved bump.

Try the XP Powertoys image resizer, it lets you specify how many pixels wide you want the picture to come out as -

I've altered the way the code works now.

Both [pic] and [img] tags will work. Also, clicking the picture will now open the original image in a full sized popup window.

Nice on Ted.

Just trying it out (on the October winner thread) and it seems a bit patchy, though.
Some images do nothing, some come up in a new window and some you get a "page not found" error.

Could you email me an example of the text that isn't working please?

Might just be the first post in a thread that screws up.

The first post in V6GTO's thread below works and you can click on the image to get it to open in a new window.

Does this mean that we no longer need to resize all images to 750px?

If everyone does then you will see the same image in a new window if you click on it surely??

Prahaps its not working fully with the img yet. Seems to work ok with pic.

With new pictures you shouldn't need to resize as clicking the image will open the original in a new window.

There's an argument for resizing anyway though, since it speeds things up a lot if you do.
