Any tips when 'pulling' an engine?
Discussion
I'm going to take the engine out of my 4.2 over the next few days, once I've cleared the garage and the other cars blocking access to it. :D
My question is: does anyone have any first hand experience of doing this, and if so any tips you picked up on the way that might make it easier? E.g. do you leave the exhaust manifolds one?
Any advise appreciated.

Yes, did it last week...... email me any questions you have and I'll be happy to help - it really isn't hard if you're quite handy with a spanner. I found getting the gearbox off the hardest part as it just didn't want to clear those manifolds..... maybe get someone to help you with that bit!!

This had me for a while, but she soon gives up after a little fight!
BTW Love the car, say it for sale but just couldnt justify 2 Cerberas!

My alternator Jackshaft decided to munch through the pulley leaving me no alternative other than to 'pull' the engine as I need to get the timing cover off to swap over the shafts.

Tim, I'm out tomorrow, but am not working Monday or Tuesday. I'm more than happy to lend a hand (& gleen experience !) & push/pull when shouted at !

Well, it started with the engine needing to come out for remedial action (which has now turned into a full blown blueprinting project - the first ceramic coated AJP8 perhaps??!!) and then I looked in despair at the chassis. Tried at first with the usual angle grinder/steel wire wheel etc but soon realised it was a waste of time, and so decided to remove the chassis and have it sand blasted/zinc coated/por15'd. Basically, these Cerbs are beautiful and very individual cars but boy do they need TLC. I'd rather spend 6 to 9 months with the car off the road sorting every conceivable weakness with the car in bits, than to constantly be chasing minor niggles as so many of us do. Makes sense, but I am desperately missing driving the thing already and its only been 2 weeks.....

Your help would be much appreciated Olly, but it rather looks like next weekend will be the earliest I'll be tackeling the job, as I seem to have a lot more rubbish in my garage than I remembered.
And, I can't do anything until I've got somewhere to work. I've also got a car to tow to my lock-up, so a busy day for me. So, if you see a green Freelander going back and forth to the tip, please do give me a

Superb effort! - keep us updated
Im sooo glad these cars are finding the hands of more true enthusiasts. In the past year there have been MAJOR developments, remaps, engine transplants, people doing complete rebuilds and taking the time to document them for all of our benefit. Not to mention more of them out on track, or at sprints and hillclimbs being used to thier full potential!
Has there ever been a better time to own a Cerbera????
