Body removal/chassis renovation

I'm thinking of taking the S3 body off over the winter to give the chassis a good rub down, hammerite and waxoyl in all the inaccessible places. I think the chassis is sound but I want to make sure it stays that way. Is this an easy job, and is there anywhere that gives you an idiots guide how to do it? I couldn't see anything in the bible on this.

I am in the middle of doing this myself.

My only warning would be that you might find more rot than you bargained for. My 500 pound outrigger replacement has turned into a 2500 pound complete strip, weld, powdercoat and rebuild. And I have been doing it for nearly two years (although I did spend six months of that with my leg in plaster)..!!

Thanks to all of you for your help. I'm hoping to find no rot, the idea being to treat the chassis before any has set in, but I suppose this may be a bit optimistic for a 16 year old car.

i too once i got the body off had to replace both seatbelt mounts diff mount and both outrigers so be warned if you know the chassis not to be to bad you may not need to do a full body lift you could get it by raising it a few inches to get to those inaccessible areas of importance ie outriggers


also ralph if have lots of pictures i would be quite happy to host them for you and but a history with it if you so wish.
