I can't get Tesco to accept my Tesco credit card.

For example, I do a shop with Tesco and i try to pay with my Tesco credit card. This is from memory, so I may have got the order of things out of sequence, a window opens which asks me to open the Tesco Mobile app and follow the procedure, I open the app, but there is no procedure to follow, what am I doing wrong?

I have contacted a number of the Tesco help lines, but the seem to be FAQs only, you can't speak to a person.

What an I doing wrong? Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

The card works in shops etc when I am present. It is distance payments where it won't work - if that is the right terminology.

Call them. You probably have a flag on your address or digital purchases.

Something similar happened to me, they had disabled the secure feature of online payments for some reason known only to them.
A quick call to them fixed it

So, is that 0345 300 4278, or 0345 600 6016?

Does it not give you the option of txtng an OTP to your molile to authorise the payment?

I know my Barclaycard it gives you the option of either using the app or a text. If you choose the app a notification pops up and when you click on it you go through a simple security procedure to authorise the payment usually just a fingerprint scan.

If it’s the same as ours….. first tap/insert and it records the card identity for Tesco Points only. The second tap/insert is for payment. It’s only that way when shopping in Tesco as obviously other places don’t record the points smile

The amount of times I’ve “paid” in the Tesco cafe only to be told to come back and actually pay! argue

It's fraud algorithms.

I will bite my tongue and never complain because ultimately, a mild inconvenience is better than trying to shut the gate after.

Have you definitely got the right app?
Tesco have 3 -
Groceries
Mobile
Bank

It'll be the Bank one that you want.

I think that’s fair, could have put a little meeeage in the app though. “We’ve disabled 3D secure on your card, could you give us a call..”

I have the same problem. I never tap on the link they provide and just open the app as normal. The payment prompt comes up instantly on the screen that way. Well it does for me anyway.

I’ve had one of these for years. It’s one of the most sensitive I e ever known.

One regular trader used to regularly trigger it blocking, I’d get the text just as I was filling the car in the petrol station.

I always use Apple Pay in the butcher because it always triggers, the butcher recons every single Tesco, card on tap to lay always requires a pin or rejects.

Usually for online it just works to open the banking app and click the authorise button. It seems to trigger this on a lot of purchases.

Better to be safe than sorry, but it can be frustrating.

That's the least of your worries.
It took 4 years for Tesco to stop both close my account and stop sending me random strangers credit card bill (all on my closed account, in my name).
