An old-ish computer of mine was playing up so I re-formatted the hard disk and re-installed all of the relevant software, but now the CD/DVD drive will not recognise DVD's. CD's are fine but not data DVD's. Does anyone know what I have done wrong?

The original drivers have long since disappeared, are there any generic drivers that I can download? I am not interested in watching films, but I have some software on DVD that I can't install.

Thanks in advance for any help.

If in a modern flavour of Windows, no drivers are necessary.

Did it only just start acting up the moment you rebuilt?

Could it just be that disk that's scratched or dirty?

Make sure you've got aspi layers installed.
Click Here to download the installer.

Running XP so should be modern enough.

The drive recognised data DVD's before I re-formatted the C drive and re-installed XP.

DVD's not scratched, runs perfectly in other machines.

Will try the aspi layers (whatever they may be!).

Is it one that was written using one of those 'drag 'n' drop' writing packages that needs a little bit of in installing to read the disk again?

It won't read any DVD's. The DVD in question contains software I am trying to install, it works fine on other computers.

If you put that DVD drive in another computer, does it read DVD's?

It used to read DVD's in the machine in which it is currently installed. I haven't removed it to try in another machine, if I remove it will be to bin it.

I've just added a new DVD writer, and now my original DVD Rom wont start/read. Pi$$ed off with computing.
