Where’s the scam?…

I’ve been looking for a Yeti 4x4 for a few weeks as a replacement for my Panda 4x4. I’m particularly interested in the Monte Carlo model.
There’s a back-street dealer in Keighley (no, not that one) that has two or three Yetis for sale, along with a whole load of high-end stuff. When I called about one of the Yetis, I was told it was sold, but the same adverts keep re-appearing. I called again to be told “it’s just sold”
It doesn’t add up - why would a dealer advertise cars they don’t have? Is it some kind of front for something a bit nefarious?
If anyone fancies trying, it shouldn’t take long to track down a Yeti Monte Carlo in Keighley… ;-)

It may not be a scam: often dealers have "bulk" deals with advertising platforms and either through laziness or just wanting to fill their allocation of ads keep the same details in their uploaded list, even if they may have sold them. It might be a way of gauging mark demand for particular models based on the number of enquiries they get.

Answered in the 2nd post on this thread.Dealers have a "package" of (for example) 9 advert slots. If they have 8 cars for sale and one recently sold, rather than leave the slot blank they'll leave the details of the last sold car in it, until they have a 9th ready for sale.
They don't give a discount back for using less slots than the package. The package sizes aren't particularly flexible.
