The crane was lifting a whirlpool bath into the garden of the house in Coniston Avenue, Fulwell, on Friday when its jib smashed through the roof.

Looks like the crane operator didn't make sure the ground under the stabilizers close to the house was strong enough. Very strange, but must be totally his fault; must be feeling very sheepish!!

Blimey were they in the bath, with the water and bubbles going at the time!

Cant imagine, a crane of that size could easilly come off worst, in a fight with a domestic appliance.

Must make for an interesting, 'domestic accident'

on their house insurance

What that photo does not show is that beyond the house, there's another 40ft of jib, dangling rather close to the 1500V overhead line for the Metro system.

But how much does a hot tub weigh?

Alternatively how much can a crane like that lift? I would have assummed it could easily manage a hot tub, even without stabilisers. Or at the stabilisers that important? Well obviuosly they are!

It's not so much the weight, it's the reach. My hottub weighed about 750kg's but I needed a 30 ton crane to get it into the back garden.

Sounds like this fella had the same problem, but unfortunately, he didn't have stable ground to put his stabilisers down onto.
