My daughter bought an A class (a180 petrol) a month or so ago. Today the steering has gone very heavy (like really heavy) and the car suddenly showed loads of errors, such as parking brake warning, traction control warning and collision prevention inoperable warning.

Typically I am away for a couple of weeks so can’t really help much, fortunately she can use another car whilst I am away but anyone have an idea of what could be causing this. My first thought was a poor/low battery so she put the car on charge for an hour and a half (obviously not enough to fully charge but enough to add a bit) and it is still the same. Of course I could be barking up the wrong tree. So do you have any idea? TIA.

If this were a BMW I'd be saying battery, based on experience. That would still be my first port of call. If it's reached the end of its serviceable life then charging it won't help.

If it isn’t the battery then maybe the auxiliary drive belt has snapped (assuming it is not electric pas).

If not battery or belt then I would guess a faulty sensor, something like a failed wheel speed sensor.

I have had exactly the same errors on my CLA. Mercedes have diagnosed a faulty wheel speed sensor and are replacing it under warranty even though the car is 2017 !!!!

It appears that they have a 10 year warranty.

Thanks for the replies, ended up taking it to a specialist and it was a rear ABS sensor, although the battery was also in poor condition, although they think the original so did extremely well to last 10 years!
