Hi, wondering if I can start a debate and potentially be swayed toward one of these 2 vehicles.

I’m in the market for a LARGE suv, and have narrowed it down to a e70 x5 or 7p Touareg.

Both fit the bill nicely in terms of size and performance, but what is the better of the two?

I’ve usually stuck with bmw, I currently have a 330d f31, but have been told the v6 tdi is a much more refined motor and delivers power lovely.

Has anyone gone from one to the other? Or currently owning, and can give me some insights?

Ta.

I had a Touareg a few years ago. An excellent car, but just a bit too wide for the back lanes.

The only problem I had was when I didn't follow the correct procedure for filling the Adblue tank, and the car kept counting down. I believe it's been sorted with a software update.

Never felt lacking in power, and was very refined.

I'd feel far more confident running a 10 year old Touareg than an X5 at the same price.

Everything points to the Touareg.

Luckily I don’t usually do much in terms of back lane driving, I’m on the motorway the majority of the time.

I'm a big fan of the X5, so I can definitely recommend them. I used to have a 2004 X5 4.8iS, and I've currently got a 2024 X5 40d. thumbup

Nice one, ever had an e70? The one I’m looking at is a 2013.

The E70 is the only one I haven't actually driven to be honest, I've owned both the E53/G05, and I've driven the F15 X5 40d too. You can't go wrong with X5 for me. thumbup

Toerag? X5? Pah. Puny things.

Import a Lincoln Navigator and be done with it.

Budget? I was in the same boat and went Touareg and don't regret it. X5 e70 3.0 deisels can be a bit fragile.

hehe

That makes me think about when I hired a 5.4 V8 Ford Expedition once in Florida. It was doing 16mpg which wasn't bad in fairness, but the problem was that it didn't have the performance to get up a steep hill though!

The saga..I bought a Touareg, all was well until day 3 of ownership, and WOW did things go wrong, aircon compressor failed, 2 injectors leaking, sunroof got stuck open, among a few other things, dealer is now having the car back, safe to say the Touareg is out of the picture completely, I think im going to look into the x5’s instead.

I picked one up 4 days ago, 3 days in the Touareg pantsed its self.

Annoyingly.

They are mostly all fragile, x5 will st the bed at some point too, you were just unlucky to buy from a bad dealer who didn't prep properly.
If you are of the mindset to discount an entire range because of normal failures maybe go for a land cruiser instead.
