MG ZS Petrol or Hybrid
Discussion
Hi. I haven't bought a new car for several years and a lot has changed since then
I'm looking at the MG ZS, mainly because of the price and 7 Yr warranty. I'm heading more towards the petrol version because I haven't driven an automatic before and I'm also a bit concerned about the expected battery life of the hybrid only being 8-10 years. I've kept my last car for 12 years from new and would be aiming to do the same.
I drive approx 8,000 miles a year. Mainly around town with longer motorway drives approx every 6-8 weeks. I'm more interested in the car being reliable and vale for money than anything else.
I'd appreciate any views! Thanks

The battery should last far longer than 10 years.
Saying that, MG have a really poor reliability record, even finishing below VW.
If you want new, then maybe a dacia duster, Bigster, or Stepway might be an alternative, they offer hybrids too and fair much better in reliability, and with dacia zen also have a 7 year warranty.

With 8K a year and reliability a concern buy yourself a corolla:

There is a reason why all the taxi drivers use them plus they have a 10 year warranty - not that you should need to use it.

A few things
1. I wouldn’t be concerned about perceived MG unreliability on the MG ZS. They issues MG had where mainly on the MG4 electric which was rushed out,
A lot of those issues are now resolved but it left a sour taste with owners of a car which clearly hadn’t been tested properly to get rid of all the bugs,
The ZS is the most reliable car in the MG range.
2. I have driven both the new facelift ZS in pure petrol and in hybrid as hire cars.
In ome sense I preferred the hybrid version because the fuel economy was noticeably better. Your talking at least an extra 10mpg and the auto box was fine to drive,
I’m not saying the pure petrol power was not good on the fuel, but the hybrid you do notice the difference in fuel usage.
It tended to only use the hybrid electric power at lower speeds, once you were doing 30 plus it’s on pure petrol mode.
So if you’re doing lots of longer journeys I would go for the pure petrol, shorter local journeys go with the hybrid.
the MG ZS is undoubtedly the best value package on the market with pre reg models from £16.5k, a lot of car and warranty for the money.
