Another oldie and (possibly) a goldie. Airfix recently reissued their venerable (1966) 1/76 DUKW kit as a starter kit with paints and a brush. I picked this one up in my local Lidls for about £6.00 only a few months ago. As the mould dates back almost 60 years, Airfix should really have included this as part of their "Vintage Classic" range. However, depsite its age, the mould seems to be in good shape and there were no fit issues, at all.

It actually was a nice little project and, for me, a very fast build.

It wasn't really a nostalgia build for me as I didn't build any armour kits as a kid but I find these small scale armour kits very nice and therapeutic to put together. The fact that I'm not that knowledgeable about armour means that I tend to accept what the kit manufacturer presents. I'm a bit more critical when it comes to aircraft or space subjects.

I didn't take any pictures during the build so all I have to show is the original box and the completed model.

Looking good, just far too clean to be a proper armour model smile.
It should be covered in mud and the paintwork chipped to such an extent that it looks like it’s spent years out in the desert, particularly if your modelling a subject that spent 3 months in Northern Europe getmecoat

It's just arrived off the boat at Liverpool. Hasn't been driven out of the port yet. Look, even the assigned driver hasn't turned up yet smile

Vehicles tend to be 1/76 to match model railway scales.

When originally issued by Airfix in the 1960s, these armour/military vehicle kits were aimed at model railway layouts so were billed as OO/HO. Here's a the box art from a late 1960s issue of the kit -

At one point it WAS listed as 1/72 (which it isn't) -

Because Airfix went down the 1/76 route, when Matchbox started their military vehicle range they copied Airfix so their kits were also 1/76. The Matchbox kits are still released from time to time by Revell.

Since those days, both Airfix and Revell have released genuine 1/72 military vehicle kits.
