I’m hoping to collect my rebuilt Essex in a couple of weeks. I’ll be hiring a van and should be able to lift it out with an engine crane. Is there a steel frame/cradle available to support the engine in transit? I’ve seen them for a cross flow/four cylinder engine size but the Essex is a lot heavier.

Thanks

Blankets and ratchet straps and/or chains.
If you really feel the need for a cradle, wood also works and you can diy in a very short time.

Interesting one.

As Bernard has mentioned. Strap it to a pallet/skid so it does roll over.

Assuming the rebuild included a fresh coat of paint...moving/packing blankets are in order with some blocks of wood screwed to the pallet to support it and keep it in place.

As an option, what about setting it in an old rubber tire?

Out of curiosity how did it get to the rebuilder on the first trip?

Thanks for the ideas, hadn’t considered a wood frame, or a tyre! My current engine is still in the car (Marcos rather than TVR actually) and still usable. The engine builder will let me know when the replacement engine is basically built, then I’ll send down my carb and dizzy for modification, plus a few other ancillaries, then bench run and dyno before I pick it up.

…and yes it’s looking nicely painted!

When I’ve moved mine around, I put it on a wheeled dolly, sat on its sump pan with a rubber sheet underneath it.
Put wood supports under the front, because it will tip forward, then ratchet straps around the engine and under the dolly.

I just put mine on a blanket in the back of a hatchback and tied it with ratchet straps.

The tyre is a great idea.
