Can I ask for camera footage from a supermarket delivery van
Discussion
Long story short, I’ve witnessed some of the most dangerous driving I’ve seen today
A supermarket market home delivery driver overtaking my fully laden 8 wheel tipper on a blind bend on a rural road, I’ve braked as I’ve seen him , as he drew level he’s forced me to go on the verge to avoid him taking my offside mirrors off-absolutely staggeringly dangerous driving.
Whole incident was probably 5-8 seconds but seemed like an age, I was fully expecting an oncoming vehicle to round the bend any moment. As a professional driver I realise everyone makes mistakes but this was so dangerous I ain’t letting it go.
I’m not one for ever grassing someone up but this
deserves to get whatever is coming-I’m sure they will have cameras fitted, but if they play dumb, can I ask for footage at a given time from a given vehicle?

If you take it up with his employer, they will probably sack him.A supermarket market home delivery driver overtaking my fully laden 8 wheel tipper on a blind bend on a rural road, I ve braked as I ve seen him , as he drew level he s forced me to go on the verge to avoid him taking my offside mirrors off-absolutely staggeringly dangerous driving.

I did a stint for Tesco - the dash cams are always on and security sealed and only broken if there's an accident/incident, you'd need to report it right away so it isnt overwritten they are in use all day so not sure how long they last before overwriting.
All of the vans were gps tracked for speed infractions and have a device in them that beeps and warns you if you brake or accelerate too hard (massive distraction).

By all means report it to the relevant supermarket, but don’t necessarily expect a great deal to happen. I had an incident last year with a delivery driver, I reported it and just got a standard response email back. When I called again to find out what action had been taken, they were more surprised that I had bothered to check up than actually do anything. My understanding of it is that they will only get involved with disciplining a driver if there has been a “serious” incident, in that, a major accident has occurred or someone has been injured/killed. I suspect that they place more emphasis on delivering goods quickly, rather than safety, until it eventually goes wrong.

You could go down the subject accsess request under GDPR

OMG a tipper driver complaining about dangerous driving - it must be bad!
In all seriousness yes I'd report that
In all seriousness yes, that’s why I posted it-and for clarification, I drive a grab lorry, but 8 wheel tipper was easier in the initial post, I’m not a stereotypical 8 wheel tipper driver lolIn all seriousness yes I'd report that

Personally its sounds like an accident anyway in that your mirrors were smashed?
Id report it as such and escalate it as a complain to the supermarket
Be quick the cameras could re-write the footage.
read the post again, my mirrors were not smashed, but certainly would have been if I hadn’t veered on to the verge-Personally its sounds like an accident anyway in that your mirrors were smashed?

Look-( this is what I was actually hoping wouldn’t happen) we’ve had the “ 8 wheel tipper driver blah blah “ but I can understand why to be fair, and also the “ surely you have cameras fitted” b
ks-
No we don’t have cameras fitted because we don’t have too-not one accident claim against me in 14 years of driving for this company, and anyone advocating driver facing cameras can f
k right off ,and hopefully mr Ocado has done enough to drop himself in the s
t.
8 wheel tipper drivers? I get the sentiment, some are bad some are not.I consider myself a professional driver and work to professional standards, but like I’ve said already-everyone makes mistakes, as we see in loads of dash cam crap on you tube, this was not a mistake, it was downright dangerous/reckless.

OP having dealt with this at work, and having been a home delivery driver email the company with your complaint, include date, time location and ideally number plate and they'll be able to get the footage to review it and deal with the driver.
